Q. So Maria, what do you do when you're feeling blue?
A. Go out and get drunk on Southern Comfort and lemonade on the rocks.
Q. How's the psychology degree going?
A. Really well. I've just started working with some problem children and I'm tutoring gypsy kids, too. They're a real handful but I love being able to help people.
Q. Do you have any irrational fears or habits?
A.I don't like the sea. I'm just frightened of it. I think it's very unpredictable. My friends are surfers and I've seen some of them get seriously hurt. As a child, I was also really petrified of the dark, to the extent that I'd check all the wardrobes before going to bed. I slept with my sister until I was 13. (Well, lucky sister - MP)
Q. What gets you going in the morning?
A. A good blast of music, something like the new Red Hot Chilli Peppers album. A really cold shower does wonders, too.
Q. When we last spoke at the start of the year, you'd recently split from your boyfriend. Are you still single?
A. Yes. I've had another boyfriend in the meantime, but now I'm on my own again.
Q. Not for long, though, I'm sure. If you saw a bloke you liked, would you make the first move?
A. I've never made a move on anyone, because I can be quite shy really. Everybody I've been with has just started talking to me and things have developed from there. I've never actually pulled. I don't have a seduction technique. I just sit and wait for whatever happens.
Q. What do you look for in a bloke, then?
A. He has to be funny and have nice eyes, and be tall.
Q. And what turns you off?
A. When he's full of himself and tries to be someone he's not. He has to be genuine and respectful.
Q. How did you lose your virginity, presuming you have?
A. I was almost 17 and it was with a friend who was two years younger than me. I'd known him since I was five. My best friend was going out with his best friend, and we all did it together.
Q. Oh? Sounds good…
A. Not like that, but we were downstairs and my friend and her boyfriend were upstairs. We were shouting to each other, "Have you done it yet?". It was a fairly nice experience - just young people experimenting together.
Q. Own any sex toys?
A. Yes, I have a vibrator and one of those 'rampant rabbit' things.

A. Yes, they do the business alright.

A. About a week ago, because it ran out of batteries.

A. Loads of things. I'm not a serious person.

A. He'd have to take me somewhere nice to eat, but not do anything corny.

A. Yeah, while we were in a car. We got caught by some old git who decided to look through the window.

A. Never!

A. I don't like them.
Q. What are you like when you're drunk?
A. A nightmare. I don't often drink.
Q. Do you have a recurring nightmare? If so, what is it?
A. I haven't had a recurring nightmare although I have lots of dreams about people trying to kill me.
